Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and LET US RUN with endurance the race set before us, LOOKING UNTO JESUS, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Heb 12:1&2

Language Arts :) Help Please!!!

Language Arts.....the time of day in our house that we don't look forward too. So the time has come for  a re-evaluation of what we are doing in order to find what is going wrong.... We know that this isn't a one sided coin... just the program we are using... But also the attitude we bring to the program. So praise God He showed us this and we are now dealing with the attitude we all have but now it is time to also change the program. We were using a complete language arts program but it just wasn't made for wiggly boys.... 20 spelling words a week that didn't have a pattern, and daily  phonogram flash card drills... in other words NOT VERY FUN! At this young age I want to instill in my kids a love for learning and this wasn't cutting the mustard. Right now I am in the searching mode so I would gladly take any suggestions of programs you have used that are good for boys who would rather do anything else :) He already know basic phonics and is reading just not with fluency.

With my 4 year old I recently started  using this book called Teach Your Kids to Read in 100 Easy Lesson and I am in LOVE! It is short and too the point and
After just lesson 19 Zack is already reading!!!! I wish I would have started this with Jayden. But oh well I can't look back at what I could have done... Time to look forward at what we are and can be doing!!!!

In the intrem for Jayden I found this  great website http://www.superteacherworksheets.com/spelling-levela.html  It has 1st grade spelling lists where all the word focus on ONE phonogram blend... like last week we did words with TH... this week AY and are only 9 words.. And boy did my son get so excited to see that he was able to spell all the words on his list after a week of practing them with no problem at all and his mommy almost cried tears of JOY from seeing him enjoy it!
We are also using and have been since September  https://www.explodethecode.com/. He enjoys most of it and it is working. I also love that I can track his progress and they tell me areas that he needs to work on. Right now his is reading compound words.
Ok so it was time to make it fun... what better way to do that then to play a game... And that is what the photo is at the top a great game I ordered through Amazon with my vision's money called What's Gnu? We had a blast playing it yesterday. I also ordered these games which we got this week

Now I just need to remember to play these games. I am a very " textbook" learner so it has been hard for me to think outside of the box. I know that is not how either one of my boys is going to be able to learn... so now it is time to get creative :)

Oh and for readers we have been using

Well now that I have successfully avoided my run this morning it it time for me to go and get ready. My sister and I need to go and find a dress for the wedding we are going to this afternoon. Thank you ahead of time for your suggestions! Have a wonderful weekend!

Precious Gems

She came tonight as I sat alone, the girl I used to be.....  And she gazed at me with her earnest eye and questioned reproachfully;
Have you forgotten the many plans and hopes that I had for you? The career, the splendid fame, and all the wonderful things to do ? Where is the mansion of stately height with all of its gardens rare? The silken robes that I dreamed for you and the jewels in your hair?
And as she spoke, I was very sad for I wanted her pleased with me......
This slender girl from the shadowy past the girl that I used to be
So gently rising, I took her hand, and guided her up the stair
Where peacefully sleeping, my babies lay innocent, sweet, and fair.
And I told her that these are my only gems, and precious they are to me;
That silken robe is my motherhood of costly simplicity.
And my mansion of stately height is love, and the only career I know
Is serving each day in these sheltered walls for the dear ones who come and go.

And as I spoke my shadowy guest, she smiled through her tears at me.
And I saw that the woman I am now, pleased the girl I used to be.

We read this poem at our ladies study last night. We are reading Womanly Dominion by Chanski. If you haven't read it DO... God has used it greatly in my life.
There are days when I can't get my eyes off myself, my wants, my needs, what I think I deserve... Notice all the I's and My's. I need my own time, I want the house just so, I need to to be recognized for all I do in this house, what am I chop liver??? But this isn't godly mothering this is the sin of selfishness.... putting myself first.
Yesterday was family weeding day.. so we went out and got to work. While weeding I was reminded of how weeds in a garden are like sin in my life. They start out small and may even be over looked but as the rain and sun feed it the weed grows and grows. The weed then begins to take the nutrients from the good plants and they get more and more difficult to pull out. Just like sin in our hearts...Small thoughts of selfishness when fed with all the "I" statements can grow and grow then I get depressed looking at all that I think I don't have and deserve. I then get angry and bitter with those in my house looking at them as the reason for my problem. but really it all began with those selfish thoughts. Then I read this.....

"Think, dear sister, how the Lord Jesus selflessly served you. He laid down His life to make you look good. He laid it down on crucifixion day, as that you'd look good on judgment day.  He was spat upon, beaten, scourged, mocked, stripped, spiked, hung, and forsaken. Then he breathed his last so that you wouldn't forever weep, wail, and gnash your teeth in hell. He was born, lived and died with the sole object that you would look good forever . Could it be that this wifehood and motherhood thing is calling you to higher ground, conforming you more to His glorious image?.....
The Lord made me for a purpose, too. He made me a woman, a wife, and a mother. He made me to serve. And when I serve, I feel His pleasure." Chanski

See what I mean... good book eh??? I need to remember all that God did for me.. He died for me while I was still a sinner Christ died for me...  I am doing the Lord's work being a helpmate to his child and a mother to His kids for no other reason than for His name to be magnified. I pray that I can always recognize my selfishness for what it is and by God's strength and power weed it out of my heart before it takes root and grows. And I can say that the girl I used to be would be so happy with what I have now...These are my rewards, my promotions, my treasures that no job or money could by!!!! take a look :)

We went on a fun field trip to Scientopia.. a kids dream place to play... with kitchen and shopping market, craft area, puppet play, life size Lincoln logs and many other things

The blue stuff is recycled tires!

Today we made homemade pizza for the first time.. I know why did we wait this long to do it?? I don't know :) The boys had so much fun playing chef! That is Zack's look after I caught him dipping in the cheese bowl for the 5th time!  And the pizza turned out good I guess.. I didn't eat it but all the kids did! Zack said while trying the first few bites... " Mommy is NOT chopped.... this is good pizza!" They watch the show chopped with us often can  you tell :) So when I cook something I either hear... "mom you are chopped or not chopped!"

I am so thankful for my babies.. even if they are my only gems they are precious to me!

Gift of Parenthood

Here is the devotion that I shared at my friends shower last week. I thought I would post it in hopes to encourage you...

I am so excited for you  as you approach this great unknown….. Parenthood.
I vaguely remember what it was like before kids (6 year ago!)
~ The time of long uninterrupted showers
~When my body was my own not a dairy
~ When my clothes were used for the sole purpose they were designed for rather than a handy tissue
~ When poop was extremely gross  and the smell would make me gag ( I would never think it would be second nature for me to willingly stick my nose up to a poopy diaper and take a whiff ),
~A clean house meant  a clean house ,not laundry that has been cleaned but sitting in the basket for who knows how long, a pile of clean dishes on the counter, spot cleaning the floor with baby wipes whenever the baby spits up or has a poop explosion.
~ When I could shut the door to the bathroom and not hear WW3 happening outside
~ When a phone conversation could last for more than 2 minutes
~ When I could just pick up and go whenever , wherever instead of having to time everything around the next feeding and having to pack a diaper bag, stroller, purse, change of clothes for me and baby, and a car seat… oh and am I forgetting something.. oh yeah a baby … I wondered why the car seat was so light! I must be forgetting because I had only slept 2 hrs in the last 24hrs!!!!....
~ Yeah I remember when sleeping for less than 8 hrs was a crime now after 3 uninterrupted hrs I can feel like a new women! Oh the joys of motherhood.

God Says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord. The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.” Ps. 127:3-5

Heritage- Hebrew is nachalah, (nakh-al-aw) to inherit, inheritance, possession. So children are an inheritance from the Lord.  Gen 33:4-5 Begins when Jacob returns to Esau after running away years earlier because he stole his brother’s inheritance it says “But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him. And they wept. And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and children, and said, “Who are these with you.” So he said, “The children whom God has graciously given to your servant.” See Jacob saw children as one of the gifts God gives us.  A gift in Eph 2 :8 “ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is a gift from God.” Our salvation is gift given to us by God through Christ for us ill-deserving sinners.

Our children are our reward, our heritage, a gift from God, something that will be good for us.
Matthew Henry says of gifts given from God “Those that cheerfully use what God has given them thereby honor the giver, answer the intention of the gift.
How then can we use the gift of our children which are given to us by God to His honor and glory?
1.
1. 1. We can make our home our mission field. He can use us as women who originally were the ones who lead the race to sin; but by God’s grace and work through us He can change the pattern by raising godly children who will repent, trust Jesus and reflect the gospel to the world. Mat 28:19 says "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” We share the gospel by the way we live and what we say each and every day.  Deut 6:7 "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” Because it is the Lord who will change your children’s heart.  Ps 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house they labor in vain who build it.” So speak the word to them! You are with your children 24/7 seeing the good, the bad and the ugly and each time can be a teachable moment used to speak the truth to their hearts.  JC Ryle “This is the thought that should be uppermost on your mind in all you do for your children. I every step you take about them, in every plan and scheme and arrangement that concerns them, do not leave out that mighty question. “How will this affect their souls?”,,, the chief end of (their lives) is the salvation of (their)souls.”
2.
           2. Our children can bring glory to God not only in this generation but in many generations to come.  Throw a pebble into a smooth pond and you will see a ripple that will multiply and grow. Ps 61:5 “For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name.” We are effecting the next generation for the glory of God! “These motherly hands are molding characters which will become men and women who will turn the world upside down either for good or for evil. Now that is a job that counts!” Womanly dominion by Mark Chanski .  We read in Psalms 127:4 “Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. “ God has let us hold our arrows for a short time and then they will be released toward the bulls eye which is the glory of God and service to Him! This is why we do what we do to raise children to be used by Him!
3.
           3.  God uses the gift of our children in our lives to help us to see what real faith looks like. Seeing child like faith displayed before us how they don’t doubt or worry but simply trust. Mark 10:13-16 “Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. "Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.
4.
            4. The gift of our children helps us to see our loving heavenly Father.  As you hold your precious new little bundle of joy you will behold God’s creation displayed in the intricate formation of your child. Ps 139:13,14 “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”  Your son was created in the image of God.  Gen 1:26, 31 “Then God said, “Let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness… Then God saw everything that He made, and indeed it was very good. “
5.
               5. We can bring glory to God by fulfilling God’s plan and purpose. In the garden of Eden God had a plan and purpose for the creation of man/ woman even before sin entered the picture and we get to take part in this plan!! Gen 1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; “. This is a blessing from God in the garden before sin entered the picture and we get to experience this blessing and accomplish God’s purpose.
6.
            6. Children are a gift to us because they show us our sin and our need of Him each and every day . 1 Tim 2:15 “Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.” Having kids conform us into the image of God by showing us our sin and need for forgiveness and grace. We can picture Christ by being willing to sacrificially lay down our life, our wants needs and desires for the good of our family, our children “We can resent the challenges and demands or draw from God’s grace and help to cheerfully lay down our lives for our children.” Carolyn Mahaney . Children more attention paid to what you do than what you say!
7.
             7. Children are a gift because they cause us put our faith in action . Once you become a mommy you will experience whole new set of worries, fears, and anxieties. “How will I know how to be a mom? The hospital didn’t give us an instruction guide!” Will I survive labor and what is my pain tolerance level (they will ask you this when you go in). When he sleeps at night you worry if he is still breathing. When he is up and crying you worry that something might be wrong! You will worry when he is sick, you will worry what to do for his education... the list can go on and on.  This is where trust in our sovereign God is put to the test. Don’t worry God has given you a child, He will show you how to raise them!  Mat 6:34 “"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

There will be times when your joy will seem to run out and your child won’t seem like a reward, a gift… but rather how can I say it a curse…. Yes it is true you will feel ( and don’t worry you’re not the only one!) like God has forgotten you and left you to be used up by this 6 lb 20 in demanding, loud, little creature who is taking control of your life
When these moments arise remember….
1.
1.       1. Pray… Pray …. Pray- and if you fall asleep while praying that’s ok. God heard you!
2.
2.      2. Be in the word- Before kids I was a “super” Christian, having my quite time daily .Once kids came excuses started coming  as to why I wasn’t having time in the word ( to tired, screaming baby, house to clean, need to eat, I want to  just sit and stare and bask in the tranquility ) however it is those times where I feel like God has abandoned me, I grow  spiritually dry….. And this is because I haven’t been in communion with my Savior. So I suggest you get a book light and have your bible right next to where you nurse and you will have 30 min read your bible and pray while nursing and that is more than 8 times a day!!!! Ps16:11 “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” You will find joy in your service as you draw near to your Savior
3.       4. Our children are our reward because they will one day rise up and call us blessed. Proverbs 31:28. If we seek to obey God in the nurturing of our children by training their heart and minds. Prov.  22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”

4.        5. Memorize verses like 2 Cor. 4: 17 “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,”Ps 127 We read that, ”Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. God has let us hold our arrows for a short time and then they will be released for the glory of God . Therefore, take time to look, admire and enjoy your baby. Trust me you won’t remember the dirty dishes that stayed piled in your sink for days but you will want to remember all the little coos, squeaks and smiles!! I even got a calendar that I hang right in my kitchen that I can write on whenever  my kids say or do something I will want to remember  either for blackmail when they are teenagers or a giggle for me :) Your baby will eventually sleep, stop crying and grow up. This happens all too fast in a blink of eye your son will go from diaper and nursing to potty trained (that a whole other issue we will talk about in a year or two :) and getting you a glass of milk! Remember In
Gal 6:9 “”Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” See God says you will reap a harvest… It will be worth it!!!
5.       5. One of the biggest adjustments for me was interruptions of my plans…. I like to make to-do list and check them off.  If I am not able to get my to-do’s checked off I often get discouraged. Well I am still learning that what I have planned for my day might not be what God has planned. C.S Lewis "The great thing one can do is to stop regarding all the unpleasant things as interruptions of one's "own" or "real" life. The truth is of course that what one calls the interruptions are precisely one's real life - the life God is sending one day by day: What one calls ones "real life" is a phantom of one's own imagination."  All the interruptions- they aren't interruptions after all. They are sovereign deliveries. The unpleasant things are God's perfect plan for our day. Ps. 118:24 "This is a day the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Carolyn Mahaney   A sick, crabby baby who will not sleep unless you are holding him and he wants to nurse every 10 min is God’s “sovereign delivery” for  you that day!!!

The task is big, the mountain is high and the lack of sleep may seem too much… but remember  your child will only be young for a very brief time, it is a season that will change and God says, Fear not for I am with you ; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”Isaiah 41:10 God the creator of heaven and earth, who holds the whole world in His loving hand says that He is with you, He will help you have patience, love ,energy and strength for all the tasks at hand! So take heart my dear sister with God on your side you can do this thing called parenthood for the glory of Him who gave you this gift of a son :)

Day out with just 2

There are moments when I just step back and look at my crazy kiddos calmly playing together and I am overcome with thankfulness for these 3 precious lives God has blessed me with.  Jayden takes his big brother role very seriously with Kaitlyn and has ever since she was born. Now up until  5 months ago Zack most often acted like his little sister didn't exist. Last week my mom took Jayden for a special 2 days at Nana's which meant that I had just Zack and Kaitlyn... Zack was sad that he didn't get to go so I wanted to have a special day for him. We ended up getting a little lunch and then went to the jump house. It was there that I got to see my little guy be the big brother to his sister. He asked if she needed help getting up on the slide and then asked her to sit on his lap and go down with him. In the maze he would go ahead and them come back to coax her to keep following him. It was PRECIOUS!!!

I love this little man. He is growing so fast

He helped her up and then let her pick out the show to watch.. and of course she picked ELMO

When we were at home he was VERY attentive and Kaitlyn LOVED it. I am so happy to see that they are forming a special bond now too.  Jayden had a wonderful adventure with Nana and Auntie! They went to the coast, saw baby seals, played at the beach in the rain. Zack missed his brother and said " I miss Jayden so much" often through the day.
I LOVE that they are best friends and pray that they will stay this way.
When we met them the following day at Winco we drive up and Zack says " Oh yeah BABY! I missed Jayden so much mom :)" ♥ The entire shopping trip was filled with tales of their adventures apart.  Now they are both having a day at Nana's house and I am having a day with my baby girl.
We did our weekly shopping and scored a pair of new tennis shoes for her for $3.94. She proudly wore them to the rest of the stores. This girl loves herself some shoes :) We are looking forward to daddy come home and doing the rest of our shopping... we might have to stop for a treat after :)
Well that is all that I have to ramble about today! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Storm to Sun in 2 days!!!!

The past few days have been filled with many different things... life lessons, conviction, fun, laughter, tears, prayers for wisdom, a lot of talking things out, new plans, new goals, puppet shows. mommy giving hair cuts, yard work, moving wood piles, bbq, family house cleaning night followed by a fun story time ... much like the weather things have went from cold dark and storming to the beautiful sunny and warm!
Homeschool has been a struggle but through this God has shown us as parents where we have lacked in training our kids hearts and not just their actions.  God gave us this week a glimpse into the heart of one of our dear children and what we saw was a lack of motivation (laziness) and an attitude of wanting to just give up when things get too hard which we thought before was just him not grasping or being able to do some things... but what really we need to do is to deal with his heart behind this... and after praying and talking and praying some more God gave us some wisdom on what to do. I can say that I am so thankful for my faithful Shepard who guides us as parents and shows us how to get to the hearts of our children!!! So now we have new plans with the goal to motivate, encourage and push my dear child to be all that God would have him to be and to learn that life is hard.... period! and when it gets hard we can't just throw in the towel and give up.. but we have to keep pressing on to the goal.... I am so excited to see how this will look in my dear child's life. This whole thing has also shown a light into the hearts of Mat and I and we can see where we have been lazy and not wanted to do the "hard" work required. It is so true.. children more attention paid to what you do than what you say.. so our prayer is now that our kids can see in us working hard by becoming students of the word, being organized with our day, setting goals and keeping them, and pushing ourselves to live in such a way as to bring glory to our Great God!

Anyways enough with the talk... it is picture time.....

Kaitlyn fell asleep during her play time in her room while I  was doing math with the boys. I walked to the room to check on her and I got a little worried when I couldn't see her... For some reason I didn't notice her right there by my feet!! I had to snap and quick picture and then I covered her up.
Then it was art time.... I had gotten this box months ago and we had only made 1 thing from it.. Figured it was high time to be getting that box out and get to crafting.. it was great because everything was included.... and it had directions!!!

 Making Puppets
Kaitlyn loved the glue so much that she thought it would be nice body paint... Well mommy wasn't to keen on that idea and it was off to the bath for her.... We found her baby and after mommy washed her she got to work washing her baby too :)

Yeah I think this is why I waited so long to get the box out... It made a HUGE mess... then Jayden said this was the best day ever so the mess didn't matter so much anymore!
The final products!!! I love them.. A puppet show was in the works
So our girl loves herself some pasta!!! Just a little can you tell :) So yes she did get ANOTHER bath!!

Got to love the peek- a- boos with pasta covered fingers... She had noodles all in her hair! She woudl hide her eyes and we would all say " Oh no where did Kaitlyn go???"

The puppet show... it was soo cute and had a very funny ending :)I got a video that I am going to try and post.. keep on the look out

Following the puppet show we had a family clean night... the timer was set for an hour, music was turned up and we all got to work.. each assigned a different job... and guess what... with everyone working together the whole house got dusted, vacuumed, picked up, mopped, and kitchen and bathrooms spotless. It was so rewarding for me to hear the vacuum going in one room, a kid singing along to mercy me while dusting in another room, Kaitlyn "helping" daddy clean the bathrooms while I scrubbed the kitchen. It was at this moment I realized how God has richly blessed me. Yesterdays toil  was completely worth the fruit I saw and blessing I received today!!
